The Interior Deco

This is the most common customer interior decorators and stagers will work with. Families and residential home owners will seek the services of an interior decorator to come in and refresh their living spaces. Working with a group of people, that aren't active in the real estate industry in one way or another, are a little more hard pressed in convincing the benefits of a staged home, and how it can make them fall in love with their pad all over again. You’ll need a good bit of before-after photos to showcase this grouping of clients to show them the benefits of getting their home staged. They need the value of loving their space vs. getting value when they sell it. If they aren’t in the market to sell, the value proposition may need a little more elbow grease to pick up clients.

Often times, a home owner may be getting tired of the way their property looks, or it's lack of functionality and space, and therefore have the desire to move. However, they may not be able to do so due to budgeting. That's where your services will really have a great impact. You can get to know them and their needs to make sure you design their rooms in a way that will help them love their home all over again. Working with clients needing their personal space renovated will bring on a large variety of creativity. No two projects will be the same. You'll be taking on a plethora of roles with this type of clientele. You'll have to learn to understand how to acknowledge and accomplish the designs requested by customers who have tastes that vary from north to south.

THE FURNITURE

Unlike rotating your furniture, like you would with home builders, when you purchase products for these clients, you will be buying them for the home owner to own. In the next module, we'll go over understanding client budgets, since this will be important to know before getting started. You want to ensure you get enough to pay for all of the pieces while still covering your labor/service cost.

If you're highly creative and want a change of scenery often, taking this route for your design business will be the most rewarding. Working with home-owners instead of developers/sellers will give you a range of different aesthetics. However, most often, you’ll be working for the home owner’s taste instead of your own. Unless you brand a design style that you are hired specifically for, and given free reign, most beginner stagers work on the specific desires and requests of their clients.
